Cat Adoption
A Moving Winter Story
“Poor Winter, our adorable calico cat, was found crying at the door of a house in the dead of winter. As it was the only building for miles around, it was suspected that the poor kitty was dumped from a car.
The lovely inhabitants of the house took Winter in but were unable to keep her, so they contacted the local SPCA, who decided to run an advert to get the furry feline adopted. When I came across the ad, I took one look at Winter’s pic and knew right away that I had to go get her.

I went to pick up Winter and placed her in the car, but as soon as I started the engine, Winter became absolutely terrified. Jude, my cocker spaniel who was in the back seat, was very interested in the poor feline, so I allowed him to approach.
Jude was so gentle and loving towards Winter that the kitty promptly responded by placing herself underneath his chest, and that was how we travelled home. The two remained best buddies until 2 years ago, when Jude sadly passed away. Luckily, Winter bonded beautifully with Jorji, our new dog.” – Betty, pet mom of Winter, Jude, and Jorji

In the USA, about 30% of cat owners got their cat from an animal shelter
YOU’RE RIGHT!
In 2016, the American Pet Products Association reported that 31% of cats in the U.S. were adopted from animal shelters or humane societies, while only 3% came from breeders. Additionally, 28% of cats were acquired from friends or relatives, and 27% were found as strays. Interesting, right!

The annual cost of keeping a cat is lower than that of keeping a dog
YOU’RE RIGHT!
As a cat owner, it’s important to be prepared for certain expenses, including food, litter, toys, and annual veterinary checkups. While caring for a cat involves costs, owning a dog is typically much more expensive. Dogs often require additional expenses such as pet sitters or dog walkers, professional grooming, training, and a significantly larger amount of food than the average cat.

Pet owners have a harder time finding a date than people without pets
YOU’RE RIGHT!
When looking for love, pet owners actually might have it easier to find a match. A 2008 study by two French social psychologists showed that pet owners – especially those with rescue pets – are often perceived as more attractive to potential partners. If your cat isn’t visible on your Tinder profile – now is the time to change that!

Cat owners are more intelligent than dog owners
YOU’RE RIGHT!
A 2017 study by Denise Guastello and her colleagues found that cat people tend to be more intelligent than dog people. Similarly, research from Bristol University revealed that cat owners are more likely to have university degrees. Dog people, on the other hand, tend to be livelier and more rule-conscious.

The first pet cats lived about 3,000 years ago
YOU’RE RIGHT!
It was once believed that wildcats were first domesticated in Ancient Egypt around 3,600 BC, as they frequently appeared in murals and statues. However, recent archaeological discoveries suggest that domestic cats lived with humans in China as far back as 5,300 years ago. Even earlier evidence, dating to 9,500 years ago, was found in Cyprus, where a grave contained the remains of a human buried alongside a domestic cat.
